The Maldives Map
The Maldives is a tiny country found in the Southern Region of Asia and situated southwest of India. This South Asian nation is made up of coral islands that are scattered across the Indian Ocean, right on the Equator with the Coordinates being; 3° 15′ N 73° 00′ E. Each of these uniquely formed islands are separated by the cerulean ocean and only reachable through a sea vessel or by air. The island nation is one of the world’s most dispersed countries.
The archipelago known as Maldives – The Sunny Side of Life, has 1190 coral reef islands that are grouped in a chain like pattern which is called Atolls. There are a total of 26 atolls found in the Maldives over an area of 90,000 sq.km. They consist of inhabited islands, uninhabited islands, sand bars, and reef gardens. Some of the uninhabited islands have been made into holiday resorts as well. Out of all the islands, local Maldivians populate only a few of them whilst deserted islands are far greater in number.
The average ground elevation level is of 1.5 meters above sea level, and the highest points found in the Maldives are only 2.4 meters. This makes the holiday destination one of the lowest lying countries in the entire world, and is at a risk of being the first countries to sink once the sea level rises.
The main city of the Maldives is called Male’ (Maa-ley). It is a small island but one of the most densely populated cities in the world, and the hub of all major facilities in the country.
Below you will find the Maldives Map and how the islands are separated in each Atoll.
